Trust the Experience
As per the MoU between the Centre and School of Management, Kathmandu University (KUSOM), the Centre developed and coordinated the postgraduate Diploma and Master Degree in Security Management in School of Management, Kathmandu University in 2007-2010. Besides this, the Centre has been contributing to improve security through various activities. Some of them are as listed as under:
Consultancy and training services have been provided by the members of the Centre to The Asia Foundation (TAF), IOM, DFID, GTZ, DCAF, International Alert, banks, Lumbini Development Trust, Nepal Human Rights Commission, Nepal Election Monitoring Alliance (NEMA) etc on matters of security and safety measures.
The Centre has organized several rounds of meetings with retired secretary of ministry of home, political leaders, and retired and serving police officers on the issue of Police Service Commission and other stakeholders in 2011/2012. The Centre is also closely monitoring the community policing system introduced in some parts of the country by Nepal Police. The Centre is also monitoring the situation of law and order around May 27, 2012—the day to announce new constitution of Nepal.
The Centre has organized number of seminars on the issues of internal security challenges in Nepal. Some of them are: ‘Challenges in Nepal Police and opportunities for reform’ on 12 Nov. 2012; 'Peace Building in Post Conflict Society', Nov, 9, 2009; 'National Security: Challenges and Opportunities', Jan 26, 2009; 'Enterprise Security Risk Management', 8 Aug 2008; 'Security System Reform in Nepal', 20 Mar, 2008; 'Security Sector Reform in Nepal', 2007.
Lectures on contemporary security challenges have been delivered to Armed Police Force and Nepal Police senior officers. The Centre's members have provided services to various educational institutions as research guide and visiting faculty.
The members of the Centre have participated in number of international seminars, visits related to security, conflict management, and educational programs. Some of them are: Visit to Cambodia in 2011; Seminar on 'Counter Terrorism Capacity Building' organized by Bangladesh Institute for Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) at Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2010; Seminar on 'Peace Education' at Payap University, Chiangmai, Thailand, 2011; Seminar on ‘Combating Serious Crimes in Post-conflict Societies’ hosted by USIP, Washington, 2006; Workshop on ‘Delivery of Justice and Security in Fragile States’ in London organized by OECD, DFID, and Demon on 23-24 March 2006 in London, UK.
The members of the Centre have contributed by being resource persons, discussant and panelists in number of national level meetings, seminars and workshops.
President of the Centre was awarded Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship at Bellagio Study Centre, Italy, in 2009 and SNV Nepal (Netherlands Development Organization) Fellowship for research on 'Violence against women and access to justice' in 2007-9.
